This is the second in a series of introductory articles for freshies to learn more about the weird, somewhat daunting but always interesting world that is insti. Find Part 1 of the Introduction to Clubs here, and stay tuned for more articles in the series!

Drama Club

The Thespian Society’s main agenda is to provide a platform for students to engage in all aspects of theatre, including but not limited to scriptwriting, acting, costumes, and directing. Specifically, freshmen have multiple orientations and theatre games to help them identify their areas of interest. The activities involve minimum prerequisites, so amateurs can try their hand at them as well! The club’s flagship event is Stagecoach, an annual theatre production held on a massive scale to a varied audience. Other events include the Stage Frequency Podcast and a number of events at Saarang each year. Freshies who join the club as a volunteer will communicate with other colleges during the culturals and have first-hand organizational experience in conducting the said events.

Writing Club

The club allows writing enthusiasts of various formats to explore and express their talents. It encourages many forms of writing such as blogging, shayaris, newsletters and more. It also creates a community that can enjoy and appreciate the same. For those reading enthusiasts, the Book Club allows you to come together and engage in discourse while also receiving fantastic book recommendations. Freshies who wish to explore their interests can participate in multiple events such as First Draft and Open Mics that will be held throughout the year. They will also be able to assist in conducting Saarang events and maybe participate in them as well!

Classical Arts Club

This vibrant and happening club is based on artistic expression in the form of classical music and dance. With events like a crowd-sourced Raagakadamba and Anibaddh, the club allows students to engage and participate in large numbers. In addition to this, their annual Youth Fest and the Margazhi Utsavam in December bring in young voices, experimental music, and guided listening sessions. Freshies without an intimate knowledge of such art forms will also be able to spectate and appreciate the talented artists who grace this club frequently. Even though there are no regular and specific classes conducted, members will develop a refined taste and appreciation for these art forms.

Lifestyle Club

This is for those interested in various creative activities and don’t like to be put in a box—cooking, makeup, fashion, Lifestyle Club has got all that and more. Get a chance to organize ramp walks and maybe even walk a few in inter-collegiate fests or any other pageant you can possibly imagine. Freshies who think they have what it takes, can battle it out to be Mr or Miss Freshie as well! If cooking or food artistry is your calling, the club offers fun workshops to expand your skillset. You can even showcase them at the food-fests held on campus occasionally.

Media Club

Interested in short-films, wildlife photography, or editing? Media Club is the place to be. The designated photographers of everyone on campus, they capture events like never before. They also collaborate with other clubs such as Informals or Design to help with magazine or event photography. They organize workshops on photo-editing, graphic design, and filmmaking for those trying to learn these skills from scratch. They often screen movies and conduct sessions on criticism, film culture, and more on the theoretical side. Their vibrant pictures, campus tours, and event teasers are mostly responsible for our branding, and freshies can be a part of one or many of these projects.

Fine Arts Club

This is the perfect platform to wield your brushes and paint the town red, quite literally! Right from pencil sketching to calligraphy to doodling, whatever your artistic temperament may be, this club will have a place for you. If you feel like you don’t already have these skills, worry not because there are workshops to learn them. Furthermore, you can still engage in their “Art Therapy” initiative to learn how creative expression can foster healing and mental well-being. Their flagship event is an art-fest called Strokes. Their other events include wall painting, face painting, multimedia artwork during LitSoc and Saarang; the world is literally their canvas. Freshies can sign up through NCA, wherein they’ll be selected, trained, and given a unique opportunity to hone their skills in different forms of art.

Choreo Club

You probably know exactly what to expect from this club, but it just keeps surprising you with more. Be it flash mobs or dazzling the stage at every event, this club is a showstopper. Learn dance forms from the experts of that field, help revive lesser-known regional dances by giving them a new life. It’s not just the dance; freshies can get leadership experience by helping conduct events and, importantly, the Choreo Night at Saarang that attracts hundreds of student dance crews each year. If selected into the contingent, you can go on to represent our college at several events as well. If you are a Baraat or a party dancer, then worry not—their Jam sessions give you a stage to just let the music control your body. There are specific crash courses lasting between 5-6 sessions spread throughout the month if you’re looking to learn.

Music Club

Genre does not limit this club; pretty much nothing does. The spotlight of every event: the Music Club brings you the best tunes from across the world. Whether you like K-Pop or Taylor Swift or Ilaiyaraaja, no one is judging—you’re all welcome to jam with them. The latest addition is Beats: an all-India beatboxing championship for those that like to go crazy with their thumps and bass. Get a chance to play for the contingent, perfect those instruments and experience the euphoria of playing for a band. The flagship event is RaagaBop, insti’s very own music festival that attracts local and international bands to take center stage. Apart from all this, the club creates theme songs for events, organizes workshops, band battles, and has something for pretty much everyone—to participate or sit and watch in awe.
