Literature Recommendation
Rabindranath Tagore’s Gora. It is a masterpiece on identity, in my opinion.
Movie Recommendations
Satyajit Ray’s Hirak Rajar Deshe. Its conversations are rhythmic poetry, its political message very relevant to the last 10-15 years. Ray’s final movies Jana Aranya and Agantuk are also masterpieces. Tapan Sinha’s Galpo Holeo Satti is very relevant to our Department! Mrinal Sen’s Bhuvan Shome is complex – these are all multiple-watch movies you have to see critically. They are fantastic!
Music Recommendation
I would recommend any of Tagore’s songs.
Food Spot Recommendation
I generally dislike restaurants, unless my friends drag me along. However, I am fascinated with GI Tag foods – like Kodaikanal Hill Garlic, Udupi Mattu Gulla, Thirunelveli Halwa, Shaktigarer Langcha, and Jaynagarer Moa.
Travel Recommendation
It’s better to explore the places surrounding your home. There’s always something I find out nearby when I go home – better for me than going to places like Goa. First explore home, then go out!
A Course I’d Like to Introduce
Advanced Inferential Statistics. It is my dream because it is one of the most pathetically taught subjects around the world, and many misconceptions are passed across generations. If given the chance, I would like to give it a shot.
Research Tip
There is a gap between Orthodox Economic Theory and Development. Moving beyond GDP, taking into account a satisfied, happy society is also important – we are not living for consuming. To frame policies which take this into account, research is required!
To Unwind, I Like To
Watch movies. Not new movies! Ones I’ve watched at least twenty times before – I always find something new.
If I Wasn’t a Prof
I’d be a yoga teacher. I like yoga, I do yoga. I’d like for others also to take it up.
